With an aging population and the incidence of diabetes on the rise, the scientific community is more and more interested in the preservation of muscle mass. Muscle mass requires a lot of sugar to function and ensure our mobility. It actively participates in our quality of life. With age, 1% of muscle mass is lost per year starting at 40 years old. This process is known as sarcopenia, is multifactorial and accentuated by increased of sedentariness. Other pathologies (diabetes, cancer, COPD . . .) or certain chronic treatments (corticotherapy, certain anti-cholesterol treatments . . .) can aggravate this phenomenon and lead to a large decrease in autonomy and quality of life. In addition, certain occasional events can have an effect on muscle mass all through life (unsupervised diets, prolonged bed rest, trauma . . .). Regaining muscle mass after such events should be taken very seriously as doing this inadequately or incompletely could bring on sarcopenia.
Recent research clearly highlights certain dietary strategies which can efficiently maintain or recuperate muscle mass. Myovital is a dietary supplement which combines these strategies. It provides, in optimal quantities, leucine, an essential amino acid most studied for its positive effect on muscular metabolism.
