Preserving the muscle mass

With an aging population and the incidence of diabetes on the rise, the scientific community is more and more interested in the preservation of muscle mass.  Muscle mass requires a lot of sugar to function and ensure our mobility.  It actively participates in our quality of life.  With age, 1% of muscle mass is lost per year starting at 40 years old.  This process is known as sarcopenia, is multifactorial and accentuated by increased of sedentariness.  Other pathologies (diabetes, cancer, COPD . . .) or certain chronic treatments (corticotherapy, certain anti-cholesterol treatments . . .) can aggravate this phenomenon and lead to a large decrease in autonomy and quality of life.  In addition, certain occasional events can have an effect on muscle mass all through life (unsupervised diets, prolonged bed rest, trauma  . . .).  Regaining muscle mass after such events should be taken very seriously as doing this inadequately or incompletely could bring on sarcopenia.

Recent research clearly highlights certain dietary strategies which can efficiently maintain or recuperate muscle mass. Myovital is a dietary supplement which combines these strategies.  It provides, in optimal quantities, leucine, an essential amino acid most studied for its positive effect on muscular metabolismMyovital is also enriched in vitamin D, which is essential to the maintenance of muscle mass and which is shortage in 80% of the population, as well as selenium to control the excess of chronic oxidative stress damaging to muscular metabolism.

A study published in the Lancet, equally demonstates that people who regularly consume inhibiters of the enzyme that converts angiotensin II (hypotensor medication) conserve motor faculties superior to those who do not.  Recent studies on rodents and humans have proven that the consumption of the polyphenols of pomegranate lead to a reduction of these conversion enzymes.  This is why the composition of Myovital now includes these polyphenols of pomegranate in doses identical to those scientifically studied.

In addition to these dietary strategies, it is evident that physical exercise, even moderate, among the most sedentary is an essential measure that absolutely must be implemented to develop or maintain muscle mass.

Finally, today it is largely proven and accepted that combining « dietary strategies » and physical exercise heightens their positive effect on muscle mass.
